Glonatech, subsidiary nanotechnology company of ONEX, constitutes the main supplier of the innovative project “THALES” titled “Center for Multifunctional Nanocomposite Construction Materials (Polei Ylika, CMNCM)”. The project is implemented by Democritus University of Thrace (DUTh), in the framework of the Operational Programs of NSRF (National Strategic Reference Framework), at the Center of Multi-Functional Building Materials with Smart Features for Use in Constructions.
The company through its scientific and technical team at the R&D Nano research department produces and supplies for this specific Project, ad-hoc carbon nanotubes (CNTs), which are characterized by certified high purity percentages that reach 98,5%.
The main objective of “THALES” research program is the development of innovative, multi-functional nanocomposite construction materials based on cement, which will provide upgraded mechanical capabilities, excellent durability and smart features. The new innovative composite materials based on cement, reinforced with nanotubes or carbon nanofibres, are suitable for the replacement of the conventional concrete with new high strength cement and can be used in construction projects with high added value.
According to research studies, in cases where reinforcement is used with nanotubes/carbon nanofibres, highly specialized electrical capabilities are also developed at the same time, which are offered for autonomous wireless monitoring of any damage that the material might undergo during its life span.
Nanocomposite materials based on cement can find operational applications in high standard prefabrications, with the use of nano-modified concrete, in new design of construction projects, which require special resistance or seismic adequacy and in the reinforcement of existing constructions.
Besides THALES activity, Glonatech participates also in the joint research program “Nanostructured Smart Concrete” in co-operation with the DUTh and other important companies and universities of Greece, coordinated by TITAN Group.
